The French press uses free infusion (i.e. no pressure applied!), which allows the aromas and characteristics of the coffeeto express themselves. The result is a mild drink, with less coffee extracted into the water than the espresso preparation. It's also very respectful of the coffee's aromas.
The other advantage of the French press is its ease of use!
